Kazuo Shinohara designed in 1977 this House in Ashitaka as part of a group of stark, concrete houses. Inspired by the traditional “Chise“ houses of Japan. These houses, of the Japanese indigenous villages, were generally constructed from bamboo leaves, wild grasses, thatch, reed grass and tree bark, a stark contrast to Shinohara’s concrete vernacular.
